Personalised Approach For You

Your mental health is not a “life hack”

When you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, challenges in your relationships or the effects of a traumatic experience or situation – you need more than a quick fix to help you get to the root of the problem.

Mental health exists along a continuum and we work with people anywhere along this path to accomplish more than simply managing their symptoms.

Social Worker, Psychotherapist Professional Coach

You have what you need to heal – we help you access it.

People come to therapy for a lot of reasons. And most of us are hoping for a quick fix. But real change requires us to dig a little deeper.

Grounded in compassion, we help you shift the conversation from “what’s wrong with me?” to explore “what happened to me.” The experiences of our lives deeply shape our thoughts, feelings, and behavioural patterns. Some experiences may even lead us to take on beliefs that we are “not enough,” insignificant, or even unloveable. So of course we would find ways to armour up and protect ourselves against the pain of those beliefs. At Inner Trailheads, we deeply believe that everyone is coping and navigating this world in the best way they know how.

Our hope is that counselling provides you with a safe and non-judgemental space to get curious about yourself and the challenges you’ve faced. Our experienced team will help you get to the root of your pain. We work with you, at your pace, on your goals, to access your inherent capacity for growth and healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our rates are $175-$200/hour.

In order to be respectful to the needs of other clients, we ask that you let your therapist know promptly if you are unable to attend an appointment. Appointments are in high demand, and a booked appointment is time that is scheduled for your exclusive use. Providing early cancellation gives us the opportunity to provide timely care to another client.

If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled appointment, we require you to either cancel it in your online schedule or email us at least 24 business hours in advance. Monday appointments must be cancelled by 12:00 pm noon on Friday, and appointments scheduled for the first day following a holiday must be cancelled by 12:00 pm noon on the last business day before the holiday. Appointments that are not cancelled within policy guidelines will incur a charge equivalent to the scheduled session’s full fee. Exceptions can be made for extenuating circumstances. Outstanding balances must be paid in full prior to rescheduling.

To cancel appointments, please email us at or sign in here.

Hopefully! A lot of benefit plans cover our services. Here’s what you need to look for: Masters of Social Work (MSW) or Registered Social Worker (RSW).

It can be helpful if you look into your benefit coverage before your first session so that you have an idea of how many sessions are covered. This information is helpful to share with your therapist as you are creating a plan for working together.

After each session, we will issue you an invoice with your therapist’s registration number that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you don’t have coverage, you can hang onto your invoices as counselling provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) can be claimed as medical expense when filing your income tax returns.

The first session is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you, but also for you to get to know your therapist. Typically, sessions start by going over paperwork and answering any questions you might have before the process begins. Next your therapist will invite you to share what brought you to therapy at this time. They will listen deeply to you and ask some clarifying questions along the way. By the end of this conversation, they will better understand your goals and what you’d like to work on. They can recommend an approach that would best suit you and together you can come up with a plan for your work together.

Choosing the right therapist for you is an important decision, which is why at Inner Trailheads we help match you with one of our highly skilled clinicians (and offer a free 20-minute consultation) to help you find the right fit.

With lots of options out there, there are three main criteria to keep in mind:

  • Do you feel comfortable with this person? Could you see yourself sharing personal information with them? Therapeutic modalities aside, the relationship you have with your therapist will serve as the foundation for healing. So you want to be able to see yourself having a good relationship with them. The things that make you feel comfortable are truly personal–maybe you like someone who can use humour to lighten things up at the end of a session, maybe dropping a few F-bombs reminds you it is ok to speak unfiltered, or maybe the way they listen makes you feel really seen. Pay attention to these things, because they matter.
  • Are they confident in what they are doing? A good therapist is more than a kind friend. They are highly trained and skilled in working with complex issues. You are welcome to ask them about their experience and training. A good therapist should be able to clearly communicate a plan for working together and collaborate with you to meet your goals.
  • Have they done their own inner work? You might feel weird asking your therapist if they’ve been to therapy, but don’t. You want to work with someone who knows what it feels like to be in your chair. A therapist who has experienced their own healing will be able to relate to you with deeper compassion and understanding and will be better able to guide you in finding your path forward.

Since there is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy, this is a tricky question to answer. Deciding how many sessions would be helpful really depends on your goals, your personal history and the other support systems in your life.

Some people may come for a couple of sessions to work through a specific issue that has come up in their lives. Therapy can be a helpful space to slow down and listen to your inner wisdom. Whereas other people will come to therapy with more complex issues and untangling those can take months or even years. The beauty of working with a therapist at Inner Trailheads is we will work with you for as long as you need, at a pace that best serves you.

Many people choose to start by meeting with their therapist on a weekly basis. This can be helpful as you are building momentum and getting to know your inner world. Or some people opt for biweekly appointments if that’s helpful to offset the cost or balance a busy schedule. We work with whatever schedule suits you best.

Kids are great! But working with them requires special training and a space set up just for kids. The therapists at Inner Trailheads work with adults (18+).

Unfortunately not. Inner Trailheads is not equipped to provide crisis support services.

If you are in crisis, please call Here 24/7 at 1-844-437-3247, or call 911 or visit the Emergency Department of the nearest hospital.
